NSW Budget gives 100,000 Free Apprenticeships
1. Am I eligible?
Yes, if you commence your Smart and Skilled apprenticeship training on or after 1 July 2018.
2. I’ve recently started my apprenticeship. Am I eligible?
If you start training with your training provider on or after 1 July 2018 you do not have to pay a fee.
If you commence training before this date the student fee must still be paid to the training provider.
3. I’m part-way through my apprenticeship and only paid some of the fee. Will the remainder be fee free?
No, only apprenticeship training commencing from 1 July 2018 is fee-free. You are still required to pay any outstanding fee to your training provider.
4. Are traineeships eligible?
No, only apprenticeships are eligible. Smart and Skilled Traineeship fees are capped at $1,000.
5. I’ve already started my apprenticeship. Will the student fees I have paid be refunded?
If you started training with your training provider before 1 July 2018 you are not eligible for a refund.
If the training component of your apprenticeship does not start until 1 July 2018 your training provider must refund the student fee(s) you have paid to date.
Employers
6. I have reimbursed my apprentice for the student fee they have paid. Am I eligible for a refund?
If your apprentice receives training from a training provider before 1 July 2018 you are not eligible for a refund.
If the training component of their apprenticeship does not start until 1 July 2018 you must contact the training provider to arrange a refund.
7. I have paid the student fee to the training provider. Am I eligible for a refund?
If your apprentice receives training from a training provider before 1 July 2018 you are not eligible for a refund.
If the training component of their apprenticeship does not start until 1 July 2018 you must contact the training provider to arrange a refund.
8. I signed a training contract recently but haven’t paid a fee yet. Do I still have to pay?
As long as the training provider has not commenced training delivery with your apprentice before 1 July 2018, you will not have a pay a fee. This applies even if you signed a training contract before this date.
9. My apprentice started training last year. So far I’ve only paid half the student fee of $1,000. The next $1,000 is due this year. Do I still need to pay?
Yes, fee-free apprenticeship training is only for new apprenticeships which start from 1 July 2018. You are required to the pay the outstanding fee to your training provider.
